The original idea for a site like this came from Perry Gamsby way back in 2004. Perry started a Yahoo Group that ran a few ‘TEWT”s (tactical exercises without troops) or mock situations designed to allow the members to practise handling real life emergencies. Hypothetical situations were posed and members posted their opinions and ideas. After this basic idea ran its course, an idea that had developed from one of the discussion threads came about in the form of a Yahoo Group called SOS Philippines.
While that Group has had some major success in providing help to expats and their families in need, not everyone living in the Philippines has even heard of Yahoo Groups let alone belongs to one. It is envisaged this resource will complement other, similar assistance sites and service the very large part of the expat community who don’t belong to Yahoo or Hotmail groups.
Remember, this is not a competition so don’t be surprised if you see posted here many items that are also posted on other bulletin boards. After all, the objective is to get the word out as far and as wide as possible.
